Russia says supplying F-16 jets to Ukraine would carry 'colossal risks'

Western countries will run "colossal risks" if they supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets (pictured), TASS news agency quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko as saying on Saturday (20 May).Grushko was responding to a question about the implications of providing the jets, which Ukraine has been requesting from NATO countries. It has not yet won commitments for delivery of the planes, but US President Joe Biden told G7 leaders on Friday (19 May) that Washington supports joint allied training programs for Ukrainian pilots on F-16s, senior US officials said."We see that Western countries are still adhering to the escalation scenario. It involves colossal risks for themselves," Grushko was quoted as saying."In any case, this will be taken into account in all our plans, and we have all the necessary means to achieve the goals we have set."Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Colonel Yuri Ignat told Espreso TV "we will win this war" once Kyiv deploys F-16 fighters, since they cou...

Bridge: May 22, 2023

Ben Hogan once double-bogeyed the first hole in a tournament, then reeled off eight birdies and shot 66. Asked how he had managed to overcome his bad start, Hogan replied, “That’s why they make 18 holes.”A deal comprises 13 tricks; a good defender applies himself to every one. Today’s West led a heart against four spades, reasonably enough, and grimaced when South put up dummy’s jack, winning. South then led a trump to his king, and West took the ace and led the queen of hearts.South won, cashed one more trump, then ruffed his last low heart in dummy. He returned a club to his ace, drew West’s last trump and had 10 tricks.FIRST TRUMPWest gave up too easily. If he ducks the first trump, South fails. If South leads a second trump, West wins and leads a third trump, and South has a heart loser. If South tries to ruff a heart in dummy before leading a second trump, East scores his nine of trumps on an overruff.Don’t give up! Keep looking for a w...

Ask Amy: Am I selfish to demand that my husband change his ways?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 09:14:02 GMT

Dear Amy: I am 54 years old and have been married to my (second) husband for 25 years. My husband drinks at least six beers every evening. He gets up by 6 a.m. and goes to work and will work all day without any issues (to my knowledge). He does, however, start drinking by 4:30 or 5 p.m. and will drink until he goes to bed,  between 9 to 10 p.m.I have asked him to stop, and he flat-out said no. I asked him to cut back. He did for a while but now is drinking every evening again.I have an extremely long work commute, so I go to bed early and get up by 4:30 a.m.We have not been intimate or even cuddled in years. I have told him this bothers me, but he says it’s all my fault. I love him so much and he still gives me butterflies (I’ve told him this).Nothing – and I mean nothing – has worked.I can’t imagine my life without him, but I also can’t live my life like this.Is this selfish? I mean, we did say “for better or for worse.” I just need someone to spell it out, even if it is not what I w...

New York (CNN) — Perdue — yes, the poultry company — is getting into the beer business. Sort of.For the first time ever, Perdue is selling a 12.5-ounce can of beer that’s specifically made for “beer can chicken” in time for the summer grilling season.Appropriately titled “Beer Can Chicken Beer,” the limited-edition brew is a honey double-citrus summer ale that’s brewed with “classic grilled chicken seasonings like rosemary, thyme and pink peppercorn.” The $14.99 six-packs will be sold online only beginning May 22.“Beer can chicken has long been one of the most popular methods of grilling poultry, but we noticed a lack of consensus on what type of beer is best,” said Julie Lehman, Perdue’s vice president of marketing, in a press release. (For those who haven’t made it, beer can chicken involves sticking a can of opened beer into an upright chicken and grilling it indirectly on a grill or smoker.)To make the beer, which is also for just plain drinking, Perdue partnered with Manhattan-...

ANÁLISIS | Por qué Ron DeSantis puede ganar la nominación republicana para la presidencia

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 09:14:02 GMT

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — A Malaysian comedian better known for mocking attempts by Western chefs at Asian cooking has had his Chinese social media account suspended after making jokes about China. Nigel Ng, who uses the name Uncle Roger, is the latest comedian to feel the consequences of jokes that could be perceived as reflecting negatively on China under increasingly intense censorship and rising nationalism.Last week, a Chinese comedian came under police investigation for a joke about stray dogs. Ng posted a video clip last Thursday from an upcoming comedy special in which he pokes fun at Chinese surveillance and Beijing’s claims of sovereignty over Taiwan. The video shows Ng interacting with someone in the audience who said he is from Guangzhou, a metropolis in China’s south. “Good country, good country, we have to say that now, correct?” Ng says. “All the phones listening.”Ng then jokes with members of the audience who said they’re from Taiwan, a self-governed isl...
